God’s Own Country is a small area of the Ribble Valley in Lancashire. Most of the Ribble Valley is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty – the largest in Lancashire. This website is intended to promote the locality, landscape, nature and rich history surrounding the village of Read.
Read, it’s surrounding area and other adjacent villages are situated in the South of the Ribble Valley near to but slightly detached from the Forest of Bowland Area of Outanding Natural Beauty and is therefore off the beaten track, and less well known than the more frequented areas of the Ribble Valley.
God’s Own Country is bounded on the north by Pendle Hill and it’s outliers, on the west by the ancient township of Whalley and it’s historically famous abbey, on the south by the River Calder and in the east by the more urban township of Padiham.
Why not explore the area, perhaps following one of the walks on this site, see the beautiful scenery, relax and escape the frantic pace of modern living for a day and then agree with us that this really is God’s Own Country.
Please note that this site is non profit making, does not promote religion or have any association with religious bodies of any kind. We just have a passion for our little corner of the world…………….. and oh yes, we just liked the name God’s Own Country.
